PLEASE NOTE these are not plastic pearls they are Shell Pearls.
What are Shell Pearls?
Shell Pearls are made from the inner lining of oyster shells, also known as Mother of Pearl. The substance is ground to a fine powder, shaped, dyed and coated with natural pearl nacre and then a protective coating to give it lustre. Shell pearls, like almost everything, vary in quality but may be quite beautiful and much less expensive than saltwater pearls.
More about the history of the necklace:
The large sapphire and diamond cluster was one of Diana’s most sparkling wedding presents, it was a gift from The Queen Mother. One of Diana’s first public appearances in the jewel came in February 1982, when she wore the brooch for a dinner at 11 Downing Street.
Diana wore the new necklace setting of the piece for a famous visit to the White House in Washington, D.C., in November 1985. The dinner was hosted by President and Mrs. Reagan. We all remember this necklace and dress Diana wore because of her famous dance with John Travolta.
In the summer of 1991, she wore the necklace with a blue fringed dress for a concert at the Royal Albert Hall in London. Diana usually paired the necklace with one of her two pairs of sapphire and diamond cluster and drop earrings.
It has also been referred to as the Revenge Necklace after the Infamous television interview was aired.
