This is our Moon of Baroda Necklace with a choice of Canary yellow stone with triple plated 18k yellow gold or brilliant white stone triple plated with sparkling bright Rhodium.
The original is a canary yellow diamond, but we have had these made for us in brilliant white too, to suit all tastes.
This is 2cm x 1.5cm equivalent to a whopping 17.3 Carat stunning pear / teardrop shape pendant 5A cubic Zirconia which is the closest thing you can find in appearance to a real diamond. The vegan leather chain is a choker at 14 inches, but has an extending chain for comfort.
The original worn by Marilyn Monroe was also leather.
Here is a little history
The Moon of Baroda is a 24+ ct, fancy yellow, VS2 pear-shaped diamond. It is nothing short of spectacular. It is a reminder that natural diamonds are older than we are, and many were mined between the 15th and 17th centuries.
The original diamond was unearthed in the mines of Golcondain India, it weighed almost 26ct. Once it had been cut into its beautiful pear shape, it was 24 ct. It is remarkable in that the cutting technique caused very little loss of weight. The original owners were The Gaekwads who at that time were the rulers of the diamond region in India.
In 1860 the fancy yellow pear shaped stone was fitted into a pendant and remained in India for the next several decades. The next time the stone surfaced was in the 1940s when it was in the hands of distinguished diamond cutter Samuel H. Deutsch in Cleveland, Ohio. It was ultimately sold to Meyer Rosenbaum, the President of Detroit, Michigan’s Meyer Jewellery Company.
in 1953 Meyer allowed Marilyn Monroe to wear the piece on a leather cord to promote the movie Gentlemen Prefer Blondes. The Marilyn Monroe’s association launched the stone into the eyes and hearts of people all over the world.
The stone changed hands in 1990 for a reported $297,000. The value today can only be estimated but would surely be many times that figure.
Our pendant is a faithful replica of the original stone constructed in the finest Cubic Zirconia. Presented on a vegan leather cord it has the look and feel of the reel thing but obviously at a fraction of the cost. We are also producing the same pendant in a brilliant white diamond.
Either pendant would make an ideal gift for a fashionable sophisticated woman and is guaranteed to be admired by all.
